Plexus Corp. said Tuesday that its chief operating officer Paul Ehlers has died of cancer at the age of 51.
Ehlers had been on medical leave from the Neenah-based contract manufacturer since January. He was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer in November 2006, while retaining his previous post of president of Plexus Electronic Assembly.
"Paul was a tremendous leader and a trusted friend," Plexus chief executive officer Dean Foate said in a statement. "His passion for life, his competitive nature and his eternal optimism resonated in everything he did."
Prior to Ehlers' appointment last November, the chief operating officer position had been vacant since August 2003, when then-COO Thomas Sabol abruptly resigned.
