Turia claims breast cancer screening racist

The Maori Party claims there is an element of racism in the breast cancer screening process.

Breast Screen Aotearoa has just released findings on what access woman have to cancer screening programmes.

Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia is concerned about figures that show coverage for Maori woman is 20 percent behind the national average. She is demanding answers from the Health Minister, asking what will he do about such obvious discrimination.

Associate Health Minister Jim Anderton says rates of cervical cancer are actually falling at greater rates for Maori woman compared with non-Maori.
